Solar lights gifted to Matric learners in Meyerton

On Friday, February 26, Mahindra, Rotary, and Raceview Motors (Alberton) donated solar lamps to matrics at Meyerton High School.

IT is unfortunate that many of our people do not have access to electricity resulting in students often having to study by candle light or paraffin lamps.

On Friday, 26 March, Mahindra, Rotary and Raceview Motors in Alberton donated solar lamps to matric learners at Meyerton High School.

In order to assist learners to study in better and more consistent light, Mahindra and Rotary International donated a solar powered lamp and some stationery and treats to one hundred matric learners.

“By now you must surely wonder why Mahindra decided to assist in improving the conditions under which you do your studying. Now if you think back on the words of Nelson Mandela, where he referred to ‘education as a weapon for change’, then you can understand how our value of being a driving force for change links into what Madiba said. Through the donation of these solar lamps, Mahindra wants to make a tangible contribution to the improvement in education of South African children and, in doing so, contribute positively to the growth of this beautiful country” said Jacques Mallet from Mahindra.

“Mahindra’s motto is ‘Rise’ and through this contribution we are rising to the challenge of improving the conditions under which you study. And we are privileged to have partnered with Rotary International in bringing these solar lamps to you. Now for those of you who have never heard about Rotary, allow me to explain,” he added.

Rotary is an international charity organisation whose motto is ‘Service above Self’. Men and women in local communities freely give of their time and funds to assist those in need by giving food parcels, assisting in the worldwide fight against polio or to assist with education programmes, such as this solar lamp project.
