Alberton SAPS arrested 74 suspects during the week of Christmas as part of their normal crime prevention duties including stop and search, rotating roadblocks and tracing operations conducted by sector members, the Flying Squad, metro police and detectives.

Alberton SAPS arrested 74 suspects during the week of Christmas as part of their normal crime prevention duties including stop and search, rotating roadblocks and tracing operations conducted by sector members, the Flying Squad, metro police and detectives.

The suspects were arrested for the following alleged offences:

* Theft – 11

* Shoplifting – four

* Assault GBH – seven

* Fraud – 10

* Possession of suspected stolen property – nine

* Drug possession – eight

* Common assault – six

* Common robbery – one

* Negligent loss of firearm – one

* Malicious damage to property – three

* Intimidation – five

* Armed robbery – one

* Murder – one

* Trespassing – three

* Use of vehicle without owner’s consent – one

* Possession of car breaking implements – one

* Illegal immigrant – one and

* Contempt of court – one.

All the suspects will appear in the Palmridge and Germiston magistrate courts respectively to answer to the alleged charges. The member who made the most arrests is Warrant Officer J J Lindeque. He also managed to arrest a 23-year-old female suspect for a house breaking that took place in the Moffat View area and four males for the possession of dagga after receiving a tip off from the community.

The following items were recovered and booked into the SAPS 13 precinct: cars, firearms , ammunition, tools, drugs, cellphones, cables, knives, sandals, lawnmowers and cigarettes. For the lawful owner of property to claim it back, an identity document and proof of ownership is needed.
