Renewable energy the way forward – EBA

The Ekurhuleni Business Association (EBA) met with the Metro to review the City’s energy performance.

ALBERTON – The Ekurhuleni Business Association (EBA) attended the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s presentation, City meets Business – Energy, on Thursday, August 20.

Business association chairman, Ramatiyane Seepe congratulated the Metro on a job well done in achieving all the objectives set out for 2014.

According to the EBA these targets included the electrification of households, the erection of lightning masts, installation of street lights and the upgrade of substations. The reduction in the number of unplanned outages and the plans for renewable energy sources to be developed, were praised. The EBA also applauded the department for ensuring skills development took place by offering practical electrical training for artisans and assisting experiential trainees to obtain their electrical engineering diplomas.

EBA thanked the Municipality for avoiding load shedding in industrial areas and acknowledged that this could not be done in the commercial areas. It was posited by Seepe that with more focus on renewable energy, the Municipality will in future be able to ensure continuous supply of power to Ekurhuleni for both commercial as well as residential areas.

The EBA thanked the electricity department, Mark Wilson and his team as well as Adel Gilberts, of the local economic development department, for their efforts to provide improved services and engagement with the businesses of Ekurhuleni through the City Meets Business Initiative.
