Swartkoppies bridge is being repaired

Construction teams have been spotted repairing the pedestrian bridge on Swartkoppies Road.

BRACKENHURST – Construction teams have been spotted at the Swartkoppies Road pedestrian bridge seemingly at work to finally repair the damaged structure.

The bridge has been in disrepair since a truck collided with it in March 2011.

A section of the bridge was dislodged from the main structure by the collision.

According to previous reports from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, the bridge deck will have to be replaced with a newly manufactured pre-cast deck while the existing structure is to be repaired.

Delays to the repairs were reportedly due to delays in the tender bidding process, said the metro.

The RECORD contacted the metro for more information on the repair process but did not receive a reply at the time of publication.
