Suspected Alberton house robbers caught

Three house robbers, of which one is wanted for a crime committed on the West Rand, have been caught by police.

BRACKEN DOWNS – A manĀ wanted for being in possession of stolen property in the Randfontein area, on the West Rand, is one of three men who was arrested in Brackendowns, in Alberton, this afternoon July 24.

Sgt Lindile Moloi, a police spokesperson at the Brackendowns Police Station, said the Brackendowns’ Crime Prevention Sector 1 was patrolling around Palala Street when they noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle with a registration number that has been on the lookout list.

“The police officers followed a silver Mercedes, stopped it and heard the men saying they were looking for an address. During a search investigation the officers noticed that a number plate was pasted onto another one,” she explained.

She said the officers also found car and housebreaking tools, as well as a pick.

“We ask the community of Alberton to come forward if they have been the victims of a silver Mercedes as we are certain that we will be able to link them with other crimes in the area.”

The men will be held in custody and are expected to make a brief appearance in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Monday, July 27.
