Rand Water works on pipes in Alberton

Alberton residents is have become accustomed to seeing Rand Water busy within our community. The latest area that has been affected by Rand Water is on the corner of McBride Street and Delphinium, Brackenhurst.

ALBERTON – Rand Water has closed Delphinium Street from McBride to Blessbok streets. The entity was fixing a pipeline that failed on March 17, and instead of waiting for the next pipe to fail, they decided to act pro-actively and check other pipes in the same area.

Roads have been closed due to the deep excavation, and residents are urged to use alternative routes. Residents who live in the affected area have been identified and will be given access to the road to reach their homes.

Godfrey Maumela, Executive Manager for Bulk Water Distribution, has reassured residents that their water supply will not be affected in the weeks to come while Rand water is doing maintenance of water pipes.

Maumela said that it is difficult to give an exact time that the road would be closed, but he would estimate it at about two weeks. In two weeks’ time the road would be open and the excavation will be filled, but the road will not be tarred.

The whole process would take more or less five weeks for the road to be back to normal.

Maumela wanted to thank the CPF for their help; he was impressed with the Alberton community and the reception that Rand Water received on the site.

The CPF assisted in redirecting the traffic on March 17. They were also willing to send out a WhatsApp message to their members and the community to inform them that the road was closed.
