Father and son caught in crossfire

A British American Tobacco vehicle was hijacked the morning of January 9 in the Bracken area.

According to SAPS spokesperson Sgt Lindi Moloi, the hijacking took place on the corner of Hennie Alberts Street and the Old Vereeniging Road. The hijackers then proceeded to take the driver and his vehicle behind some bushes close to Imperial Cargo, this is where they offloaded the cigarettes.

Fidelity security received a panic alarm signal and responded to the alarm. As soon as they approached the scene where the hijackers were loading the cigarettes into a white Toyota bakkie, the bakkie sped off.

Shots were fired between the bakkie and the security companyā€™s reaction team. A white Isuzu bakkie was caught in the crossfire, close to Lily Road. The suspects shot the back of the bakkie, but luckily no one was hurt. The driver of the Isuzu bakkie was with his son at the time of the shooting.

The bakkie then collided with two other vehicles on the corner of Vermooten and Delphinium streets. Two suspects left the car and jumped over a wall; a green hard body vehicle picked the suspects up. The police are on the lookout for this vehicle.
