Potholes frustrate councillor

Councillor says Alberton deserves better service delivery

Councillor Estelle Visser has expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the ongoing pothole problem on the streets of Alberton.

Potholes are a common sight and the only attempt at repair has been the filling of these holes with loose gravel easily dislodged by traffic and rain.

The potholes have been reported to the Department of Road and Civil Works, but little progress has been made due to delays at the Central Procurement Office.

The tender for the repair of potholes lapsed on 30 June and was not advertised until late September and closed at the end of October. The allocation of the tender for pothole repairs is yet to be finalised.

Councillor Visser stated that the tender was not advertised in time, because the officials responsible have been suspended on charges of alleged corruption.

“The regular ratepayers of greater Alberton deserve better service delivery, but instead of the level of service delivery increasing after an existence of 14 years, it is getting worse in EMM every year,” she added.
