ALBERTON – They have noted an increase of reports of violence and other dangers on this road. Some of the cases that have been reported recently have been hijackings of motor vehicles and heavy duty vehicles, thefts out of motors vehicles and heavy duty vehicles, and smash and grabs and threats have been made to people just for their belongings.
These cases mostly happen during the course of the day, especially when people stop at the robots, stop streets and even in heavy traffic.
“On this piece of road innocent road users are victims of crime. In one of the cases reported, a young lady and her husband were traveling on the Old Vereeniging road towards the Alrode industrial area. They stopped to enter into Hennie Alberts Street, and they were attacked by several men just for their personal items. They were beaten, and terrorised. This has left them traumatised by what they suffered at the hands of the villains,” Freddie Stapelberg, a CPF representative, explains.
According to the CPF, road users have become soft targets. They caution road users to avoid this road where possible, especially ladies, single road users, or anyone who does not conduct business in this area.
