EKURHULENI – DA Cllr Bruna Heipel’s Ward 37 has hit the jackpot with a project established to kill two birds with one stone, which started at Fore Street on Friday September 3. The Lungile Mtshali project will create employment as well as clean the community’s streets, pavements, and parks.
The staff will acquire vital skills that will ensure they are employable in the future as they will be led by an experienced Daniel Viljoen, who manages Garden Proper, a gardening business.
Daniel calls this project Unite Alberton Unite. It means a lot to him to be able to help clean this community, while combating severe unemployment in South Africa.
He also encourages Alberton residents to join in during their spare time to help make the community an environment people could be proud to live in.
The project currently has 21 staff members, who will be trimming trees and ensuring parks do not hold dirt and papers that could be set alight by the heat during the hot weather.
The cleaning was very effective from the word go at Alberton’s Fore Street, where not only the cleaning staff participated, but also the council members and the councillor herself, Bruna Heipel.
Daniel will also make sure the team removes all illegal signs on the road and fix all the skewed, bent or broken traffic signs.
“I want residents of this community to know that they will be seeing the team wearing green overalls almost everyday. If they could offer them water whenever possible, I would appreciate it as these days are hot,” Cllr Heipel added.
Hi, Please could you send them to clean up the playpark in Verwoerdpark? It is disgustingly dirty with broken alcohol bottles etc. The kids can’t use the park as they will get hurt with all the broken glass.
