‘Alberton supports the circus’ – Brian Boswell Circus

ALBERTON – The RECORD managed to get in contact with the circus representatives and received their side as follows:
Jane Boswell said: “The community of Alberton are very supportive and they enjoy the show.”
“We are a small family-run business that is a soft target for animal rights activists, who further their cause by showing passing traffic pictures downloaded from the internet (not our animals), and we have been well supported by the Alberton community and we will continue to provide family entertainment to our South African public,” said Georgina Boswell.
Smaragda Louw from Beauty without cruelty, which operates as an animal rights organisation, focuses on animal exploitation.
The organisation and members of communities will be protesting at General Alberts Park, Swartkoppies Road from 13:00 until 15:00.

As a resident of Alberton, Brian Boswell I can promise you you are not welcome here as long as you use and abuse animals for profit. Thanks to todays modern technology we have become educated with the methods used in the training of these beautiful creatures. No animals in circuses inevitable. Already nearly 50 countries world wide say so. I will always do my utmost to hurry this along. NO as long as you use animals in your circus, you are not welcome!!!
A very definite No to animals in circuses from me. With thanks to todays modern technology and social networks such as fb the public ( YES including the residents of Alberton )are very well aware of the methods used to train these poor animals to perform unnatural tricks. It really is abuse and torture for them, a down right disgrace actually. As long as the Boswell clan continue to use animals in their shows I personally will not welcome them in Alberton and will continue to speak out for the voiceless. Nearly 50 country’s world wide have banned animals in circuses and the end to animals in ciruses in SA is inevitable.

Number 1: the footage aired on Carte Blanche about the abuse of the elephants by one of the employees, makes this circus a definite ‘target’, if tat is the word she want to use to describe the action animal activists are taking against ALL circuses that use animals for entertainment. Number 2: the posters show animals in the circus. What Jane Boswell is really trying to say, is that they no longer ‘use wild animals’ at Boswell ~ that’s her gripe. There has been no official statement from this circus stating that they will no longer be using wild animals. Until such time as an official statement has been made, we will continue to protest wherever they set up. Is it also not only about the wild animals in the circus, but about ALL ANIMAL IN THE CIRCUS. This business model is old and jaded. People and technology have evolved considerably over the past 100 years or so, and it is time for all circuses to also evolve beyond the use, abuse, humiliation and exploitation of sentient creatures for reasons of profit, as is happening worldwide.
Animals are not ours to use for entertainment.Move away from the enslavement of animals !
I will rather DIE than support any circus with animals as entertainment! It’s all about the money, you don’t feel a thing for those animals! Bunch of losers!

We have no right to capture and imprison animals for our financial gain. Sure, have a circus WITH NO ANIMALS IN IT…….. !!! It’s just not right.

I can assure you that you are not a soft target at all. Fact of the matter is, you use animals in your circus, and as such, you have the attention of Animal Rights Activists. Your comment “(not our animals)” reminds of a Southern Plantation Owner prior to the start of the American Civil War stating that his slaves were very well looked after and cared for, so there should not be an issue. The Plantation Owners who mistreat their slaves should be made to free the slaves, but the one who cares well for his slaves should be allowed to keep them. Surely you will agree that slavery in any form is inhumane? The same principle applies here.
Animals should not be used and exploited for entertainment purposes. I was very fortunate to witness Cirque du Soleil. Now THAT is entertainment at its best. Why not move your family business into the next century and do away with the animals and acquire more human performers? The Animal Rights Activists are not going to go away, and you will continue to receive negative publicity as long as you use animals in your shows. Why not create a new show based on human performers and I am sure the same Animal Rights Activists will provide you with an astounding amount of positive publicity and encourage more of the community members your circus visits to see your shows. I know I would.
