Speeding, reckless driving along De Waal Street concerns

Authorities need to take urgent action before someone gets seriously injured.

I wish to draw the attention of the responsible authorities to a serious concern that we as the general public and as residents have.

We would like to make the authorities aware of the speeding and reckless driving by certain individuals along De Waal Street, Brackendowns.

De Waal Street is in a residential area where the 60km/h speed zone must be adhered to.

Although the majority of people drive according to the speed limit, there are unfortunately some drivers with their fast and noisy cars and motorbikes who are a nuisance.

People who have no respect for other users of the road and do not consider the residents who live along this road.
During weekends and especially Sunday afternoons and peak traffic times during the week some individuals feel they own the road and use it as a race track.

Some pedestrians battle to cross the road, never mind putting the lives of joggers or children on their bicycles in danger.

The most common area is from the roundabout in front of the Engen filling station driving towards the stop sign at Delphinium intersection and beyond to Andries Street.

We have good, honest and vigilant officers in our town and we as residents living along De Waal Street would like to request them to investigate this serious concern.

A possible solution would be the need for speed humps and/or speed-traps so the culprits could be fined.

I, therefore, request the authorities to urgently take note of the situation and the concern that we as owners and other road users of De Waal Street have, and to take urgent action before someone gets seriously injured on this road.

Looking forward to a positive change.
