WATCH: REACT-24, Guardians of the Garden clean up Mayberry Park playground

Guardians of Garden, a garden service company, took the entire day to clean up a park between Yellowwood and Redwood Street on August 11.

Families will now have a clean and safe park to relax in, thanks to REACT-24 and Guardians of the Garden.

This is after Guardians of the Garden, a garden service company, took the entire day to clean up a park between Yellowwood and Redwood streets on August 11.

As an act of kindness, they used their resources to make sure that the park is clean again, by cutting grass and picking up litter.

The garden service company also offered employment to a job seeker who willingly offered his services on the day.

The idea behind the clean-up was prompted by Garfield Venter of REACT-24 after he noticed the park was in a bad state.

He told the RECORD that there was litter in the park and that private cars would randomly park anywhere, leaving the playground in an unpleasant state.

“After approaching this garden service company, they then decided to jump in and help keep this park clean. I have managed to get rid of all the cars that park here and bring in alcohol. I also thank them for their cooperation. We want our children to be able to play freely and without having to worry about their safety,” said Venter.

He said after being a Mayberry Park resident for seven months, Council has only come through to clean the park once.

“Children are now coming to the park and that for us is a great achievement. We want the community to know that we are all about taking care of our community. We plan on doing this on a regular basis and making sure the park is in a good state,” said Venter.

Lindo Nkosi, a Mayberry Park resident, thanked and commended the garden service company for voluntarily offering their services.

“I think it is unfair for people to litter and not take care of the park, hoping for others to clean after them. It is a good thing to have people who still care about the environment. Before this clean-up, the park had bottles all over,” he said.
