Explore the hidden Biodiversity of the Klipriviersberg

New exciting programme launched that will examine the past and present information relating to the biological diversity in the nature reserve.

KIBLER PARK – The seed of an idea has germinated and is rapidly growing to maturity, fertilized by the discovery of an unusual terrestrial amphipod (‘land-hopper’) in the Klipriviersberg. It has opened a whole new and exciting chapter on the nature reserve. As a result of this significant discovery the KNRA has decided to launch a programme   There will be a comprehensive breakdown of the various groups, including plants, birds, mammals, insects, spiders, reptiles and more.

The newly established “Citizen Science” group will initiate research projects, have frequent field trips to collect information and share the results with our members and members of the public. The group will be led by Morne Brits who has an honours degree in Botany and a degree in Zoology. He has done comprehensive work on a Master degree based on the vegetation of the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve. He also has a FAGASA level one qualification and a diploma in Environmental Education. He is the current Chairman of the KNRA.

The first meeting in the “Citizen Science” series will be held on Saturday, 22 February 2014 and will include a presentation to launch the concept. The venue is the Entrance Precinct, Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park. Time 09:00 to 11:00 and will cost R50. RSVP Lea at leabrash@kolisa.co.za.

If you are unable to attend the launch event, but you still want to join the group, please forward your contact details to Morné (info@kironia.co.za), so that he can add you to the KNR “Citizen Science” mailing list.
