Non-working street lights in Alberton a big problem

Lights are not working in Kritzinger Road, Wildebeest Street, Second Avenue, Bloutulp Street, parts of Hennie Alberts Street, Nerina Street, Fliek Road, Grewar Road and Candican Street.

Many streets in the Alberton area are pitch black at night because street lights are not working.

Over the past few weeks, the RECORD received a number of complaints about broken street lights, where residents voiced their concerns about their safety in these dark streets.

“If we complain about the street lights, the first question we are asked is to provide a reference number, but how are we supposed to provide a reference if we struggle with the call centre,” residents said.

“Not only is it unsafe, but dark streets makes it easier for thieves to do their criminal activities,” said a resident.

Another resident said that she will see street lights in other streets burning 24/7.

Lights are not working in Kritzinger Road, Wildebeest Street, Second Avenue, Bloutulp Street, parts of Hennie Alberts Street, Nerina Street, Fliek Road, Grewar Road and Candican Street.

Residents are, however, urged to report non-working or faulty street lights and need to get a reference number.
