Bogus police hijack couple on R59 Kliprivier, wife found dead

The woman allegedly collapsed and the man went to a nearby house for assistance.

Police on the evening of February 4, were alerted to a hijacking incident that took place in Rietspruit, Kliprivier.

A response team was immediately dispatched to the crime scene and this led to the recovery of the hijacked motor vehicle, found abandoned along R550 Road in Zonkizizwe Policing Area.

A 68-year old man had earlier reported to the police that he and his 65-year-old wife were travelling along the R59 when they were allegedly stopped by bogus police with blue lights, who hijacked the couple and took their white Toyota Hilux double cab, at gunpoint. The victims were allegedly dumped on the R550 where they were ordered by the unknown suspects to get out.

The woman allegedly collapsed and the man went to a nearby house for assistance. Police were called and different units proceeded to the scene.

Police continued the search after finding the vehicle and within a short space of time, found the body of the woman in an open veld.

An inquest docket has been opened to establish the exact cause of the woman’s death. This inquest will be linked to the hijacking case.
