WATCH: State of Eden Park Cemetery raises concerns

Like many other Alberton cemeteries, the Eden Park Cemetery has left a few of its residents dissatisfied on the state of its cleanliness.

Like many other Alberton cemeteries, the state of Eden Park Cemetery has left a few of its residents dissatisfied.

Rachel van Wyk (60), has taken it upon herself to clean her loved one’s grave after hopelessly waiting for the long grass and overgrown weeds to be cut and cleared.

She complained about the unappealing state of the cemetery and that she felt it was neglected.

The Eden Park resident said the state in which the cemetery is in has made it hard for her to visit her loved ones.

“In the past years this cemetery was taken care of, but things are different now.

“With the cemetery being in this state, you even get worried because you never know if a snake could bite you in these bushes.

“I wish to see the people in charge of cleaning this cemetery,” she said.

Another resident in the area told the RECORD that she is frustrated about the state of the cemetery.

“It feels like we have thrown our loved ones away. There is no dignity for the dead at all.

“I understand that we had a lot of rain lately, but if it was kept neat and tidy it would never look like that,” she said.

The RECORD has contacted Harriet Bless, head of cemeteries in Ekurhuleni and an update will be published once she has responded to the complaint.
