Two speedsters arrested in Alberton

The speeding drivers were doing 179km/h in a 120km/h zone and 144km/h in a 60km/h zone respectively.

EMPD conducted two speed enforcement operations in the Alberton area on October 19.

The operations took place on the N12 freeway between the Reading interchange and Voortrekker Road off-ramp, and the second on Hennie Alberts Street.

Two suspects were arrested for excessive speeding.

The first speedster was clocked going 179km/h on the N12.

The 21-year-old male driver was driving a grey Hyundai Getz with a female passenger in the vehicle. He gave the excuse that they were late for work.

A second speedster, this time on a red Suzuki motorcycle, was stopped on Hennie Alberts Street doing 144km/h in the 60km/h zone.

The 25-year-old motorcyclist claimed he was on his way to visit his father in Johannesburg.

Suspects were taken to Alberton and Brackenhurst police stations respectively and were charged with reckless and negligent driving.
