A 57-YEAR-old man who was arrested for bestiality on September 27 was granted R1 000 bail when he made his first appearance at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on September 30.

This comes after Alberton SPCA inspectorate secured the arrest of the man from Eden Park, suspected of bestiality with a family dog.

After investigating a complaint lodged on September 26, inspector Shiven Bodasing, assisted by SPCA employee Wrolien Rabie, gathered essential evidence.

They then took the dog to a veterinarian for an examination and to gather DNA samples.

A criminal case docket was opened after the inspectorate had traced and identified the suspect.

Members of Eden Park SAPS and Ekurhuleni Flying Squad arrested the suspect.

Inspector Bodasing commented, “Animal cruelty is a crime and will be treated as such. We have no tolerance towards intentional animal cruelty here at the Alberton SPCA.

“Perpetrators of crimes against animals may face a fine of R60 000 or a period of imprisonment without the option of a fine.”
