Biker critical after motorbike bursts into flames

A man was left seriously injured after he apparently lost control of his motorbike and crashed on the R59 near the Kliprivier off-ramp in Alberton on August 27.

A MAN was left seriously injured after he apparently lost control of his motorbike and crashed on the R59 near the Kliprivier off-ramp in Alberton on August 27.

ER24 paramedics, along with other service providers, arrived on the scene and found the motorbike lying in the centre median. The bike had burst into flames, which spread nearby.

Members of the public used two fire extinguishers from the ER24 response vehicle while paramedics assessed the biker. He was found lying on the side of the road, attended by a doctor and an off-duty medic.

On assessment, medics found that the man had sustained numerous injuries as well as numerous burn wounds. He was also in a critical condition.

The man was treated for his injuries and was provided with several advanced life-support interventions. Once treated, he was transported to a nearby private hospital for further care.

It is understood that several members of the public rushed to the biker’s aid when the motorbike burst into flames.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
