Thief apprehended by CPS Security

One suspect was arrested after he was identified by a lady from Alberton Leersentrum as a criminal invloved in theft.

ALBERTON – The man was posing as a potential client or parent who wanted to enrol his children at Sparrows High School on June 13, 2013.

After the man left, a school laptop containing examination results went missing. The school offered a reward to anybody who could retrieve the laptop.

A lady from Alberton Leersentrum identified the man from the school’s camera footage after the suspect wanted to “enrol his kids” there too. She immediately contacted CPS Security.

The suspect started walking away after he realised that the lady was on the phone. A detailed description of the man was given to CPS Security. On Friday January 10 the suspect was apprehended at Gateway Centre, Alberton.

Both the lady and the principal of Sparrows High School made a positive identification of the suspect. The man was detained and shortly after he confessed to SAPS that he stole the laptop.

According to Tyrone van der Merwe of CPS Security the suspect was working on his own, posing as a businessman, and he was in his late forties.
