Man suspected of kidnapping caught

Alberton Police arrested a man suspected of kidnapping and rape.

ALBERTON – The hard work of Captain Elite Phindi Mabitsela has paid off. A 14-year-old girl was kidnapped from Limpopo at Mohodi gaMadikana in the area of Senwabarwana SAPS and brought to Germiston, where

she had been kept since November 1, 2013.

She was then moved to Mableton by one of the kidnappers. On January 1 she managed to escape and run away from the kidnappers. She met a woman who gave her a place to stay overnight. On the morning of January 2 she brought the child to Alberton SAPS.

The child was interviewed by officers but she did not tell the officers about her ordeal. W/O Bapela tried to organise for the child to go back home. On January 3 Capt Mafunzwaini was instructed by the Station Commander Lt Colonel Shiburi to do a follow-up interview with the child, and he then found out that she had been kidnapped and raped.

Captain Mabitsela volunteered to take over the matter. She took the child around so that she could show her where she had been kept. While she was there alone with the child she found out that the suspect was nearby. She asked help from the lady who kept the child overnight and her friend to lend her some clothes and to accompany her and the child to point out the suspect’s house.

The Captain was using an unmarked car and on the way to the suspect’s house, the girl saw the suspect.

Captain Mabitsela decided to follow the suspect and called for backup. She then realised the suspect was going to catch a taxi and decided to act.

She informed the Station Commander, who was on his way with other members to provide backup, that she was going to arrest the suspect alone and that they should hurry up.

She then drove up to the suspect, jumped out of the car and arrested him. At that moment the backup arrived. A case of kidnapping and rape was opened and the suspect is behind bars.
