Goal2Work empowers unemployed youth

Goal2Work hosted an employability workshop that went on from May 29 to 30 in New Redruth in Alberton.

GOAL2WORK hosted an employability workshop from May 29 to 30 in New Redruth in Alberton. Their main aim is to curb unemployment.

The ultimate jobseeker’s workshop addressed areas such as job search training and career planning.

Goal2Work has previously delivered online training and helped a great number of unemployed youth, graduates and learnership beneficiaries throughout South Africa with exceptional results.

The programme, which is in partnership with the Vaal University of Technology, offered preparation skills to those who attended. The programme was divided into different phases that focused on a job search network. Those who attended included first-time jobseekers, those who want to make career changes, as well as those who had previously lost their jobs.

During the programme, participants discovered how to prepare for an interview and draft an impressive curriculum vitae (CV).

Among other techniques, the workshop also touched on finding out the secrets of effective networking and using the internet as a powerful job search tool.

Kirby Williams, training manager at Options Recruitment and Training Solutions, extended her gratitude to the youth’s great attendance.

“I am glad that the youth came in their numbers and they were able to be taught about the job market. From here looking forward, they will now know where to go to look for employment. We went as far as teaching them about the basics of interviews. I believe they are now ready to face the world,” said Williams.

Vuyolwethu Manyela, a post-graduate, said she found the workshop helpful.

“This was a fruitful workshop as our facilitators focused on things that we previously took lightly. It is the little mistakes that cost us jobs. At least I know now what to do and what not to do. I encourage the unemployed to attend similar events,” she said.

Wikus van der Merwe, director at Human Capital Learning Solutions (HCLS), welcomes the attendees.
