AN Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) SWAT member was informed by a vehicle-tracking company about a white Mercedes-Benz GLA hijacked on the N3 freeway near Alberton.
It was allegedly hijacked by bogus policemen using blue lights and sirens on March 30 at around 5.35am.
Guided by the GPS unit the in hijacked vehicle, the tracking company member together with Const Quinton Steenberg of the EMPD SWAT unit located the vehicle at Pinehurst Flats in Sunnyrock in Germiston.
The coordinates pointed to the hijacked Mercedes GLA being in a garage found locked at Pinehurst Flats.
With the assistance of the caretaker, the owner was found with the keys to the hijacked vehicle as well as the keys to his garage. The 45-year-old Zambian national was arrested and detained at Alberton SAPS. He was charged with possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and a hijacking case was registered at Primrose SAPS.
