UPDATE: Attempted murder charge added after shooting at Alberton Mall

G4S member out on bail.

ON March 7 an altercation between G4S and a shopper at Alberton Mall occurred, which resulted in a firearm being discharged by a member of G4S.

According to Alberton SAPS spokesperson Capt Manara Ramotshela, the G4S member was going out of the mall to the vehicle and bumped into a shopper and they exchanged words.

“The G4S member went to put the money bag inside the vehicle and went back inside the mall where the complainant was busy withdrawing money from the ATM. They started to exchange words again and then the victim was shot in the foot,” said Ramotshela.

“The man was charged with discharging a firearm within a municipal area,” said Ramotshela.

“He appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on March 8 and he was released on bail.

“A new charge has been added against him after CCTV footage from the mall was analysed to establish the cause of the shooting.

“The G4S member is now charged with discharging a firearm within a municipal area and attempted murder,” added Ramotshela.

The suspect will appear in court again after the trial date has been announced.

The RECORD is in the process of getting comment from G4S and will keep our readers informed.
