The EMPD High Speed Unit performed an operation on the N12 freeway between the R59 turn-off and Voortrekker Road exit on February 24.
The operation took place between 5am and 11am and during the operation officers arrested five motorists driving at speeds between 161km/h and 171km/h.
All the suspects were men aged between 25 and 50, four driving sedans and one a light delivery vehicle.
According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the suspects gave the usual excuses of being late for an aeroplane or an appointment.
The suspects were taken to Alberton police station and charged with reckless and negligent driving.
They were released after posting bail of R1 000 each.
The five men are expected to appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
