Woman questioned for being in possession of leopard skins

Specialised units of the police are investigating where the skins come from and why the woman was in possession of them.

A CASE was opened at Alberton SAPS on February 8 due to contravention of the Biodiversity act 10 of 2004.

An Alberton SAPS officer patrolling in sector three received information that a person is in possession of the skins of wild animals. Responding quickly to the information officers investigated the implicated address and found plastic bags filled with the skins of leopards.

A female, aged 56, was found at the address and was taken in for questioning.

Specialised units were summoned to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The RECORD will continue to follow up on the developments of the story as investigations progress.
