Three weeks to back to school

Holidays are almost over and that means one thing, back to school.

It is almost time to start thinking of getting the children back to school. Yes, it is all back to normal when the schools open on January 9, 2019.

That means back to early mornings, preparing children for school, making those lunch boxes and ensuring that they have everything for the day. Also, driving them to school and picking them up later from school. Back to monitoring if they have done their homework’s and studied every day.

It is going to be difficult for children to wake up on the first day, even though they’ll be full of excitement to be with their peers again. Get ready for it; start preparing your children for back to school.

It’s going to be an emotional day for parents that will be taking their children to Grade R, seeing their children starting the journey and of course, some toddlers will be so excited and some not so keen to be away from their mothers and to be with children they aren’t familiar with.

Here’s your list to get everything in order for when it is time to get back to school:

1. Do shopping for school uniforms, school bags, lunch boxes, stationery etc. It’s quite cheap during the festive season. Prices will skyrocket in January.

2. Go back to the routine of the usual bedtime. It’s important to start getting your children to go back to their normal bedtime. If you do that it won’t be a hassle for them to wake up on their first day of school.

3. Start covering their books and ensuring that everything is in order beforehand.

4. Start by re-establishing school routines for your children. If the first thing they do when they get back home is to do their homework, start by giving them books to read at certain times.

5. Get them used to their studying or homework place again.

6. Limit the time they spend watching TV or using their laptops or cellphones. If you always switch off the TV and take their cellphones at, for example, 7.30pm, start doing it again.

7. Do a review on school material and information issued by the school for the following year.
