Swartkoppies head on collision claims two lives

Brackendowns CPF would like to share their sincere condolences to the family of Louis Van Niekerk.

A Brackendowns CPF member and a another male patient were instantly killed in a head on collision involving two SUV`s in Swartkoppies Road, Alberton this morning, November 17.

One vehicle immediately burst into flames after the crash while the driver was still trapped behind the steering wheel.

The alarm was received around 7am and the road had to be closed for the duration of the operations till around 9am the same morning.

City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from Alberton fire station swiftly responded to the scene and found one of the vehicles still burning.

After extinguishing the blaze, both drivers from both vehicles were declared dead on scene by paramedics due to poly trauma injuries and intense burnt wounds respectively. Fortunately, there were no other passengers in both vehicles.

It is alleged that the driver of BMW X5, made a U-turn in the middle of the street and drove against the oncoming traffic in a very high-speed, crashing head on with KIA Sportage SUV and subsequently, both drivers died on scene.

Rescue team had to use specialised hydraulic rescue equipment “Jaws of Life” to recover both drivers from the wreckages.

Brackendowns CPF would like to share their sincere condolences to the family of Louis Van Niekerk and a big hug to his other family the BRACKEN CPF it is sad to lose a dedicated community member.

May Louis’ soul RIP.

The actual cause is still undetermined and is under investigations by City of Ekurhuleni traffic officers.

NB: City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) pleads with motorists to be extra cautious on the roads to avoid fatal crashes more over during the festive season. Best reputation will save lives.
