Unemployment a sad excuse

I beg the youth to take a hard look at themselves - they are the only ones who can make the choices to a better life.

I am a resident of Eden Park and I have to say, I am sick and tired of the youth (and adults) using unemployment as an excuse for their drug addiction.

Many of us have faced hardship in our lives and yet, we chose to rise above the occasion. There are many opportunities out there for these youngsters if they would just get off their lazy backsides and try to find a job, an internship of some sorts and get some skills behind them. With acquired skills there is also nothing stopping them from slowly but surely starting up a business.

Unemployment is just an excuse for these youngsters. Life is all about choices and they can’t go on blaming other people and situations for their choices in life.

How many recyclers do we see day in and day out, pulling and pushing trolleys from early in the morning to earn a living? What is stopping these youngsters to do the same? Pride? Definitely not because if they had any pride they would make different choices – they would not steal, they would not get involved with gangs and they would not do drugs and then blame it on others.

I beg the youth to take a hard look at themselves and to turn their lives around – they are the only ones who can make the choices to a better life.
