How sad it is to witness women being abused even during Women’s Month.
The takeaway from Women’s Month, and a number of others not listed, is that women are acknowledged as uniquely qualified to improve the world. But the worth of those skills is difficult to put a rand value on, especially since it brings forward the question of the value of everyone and everything else we’ve been encouraged to believe.
For centuries, a woman’s beauty was the determinant of her worth. Standing in the formative years of this century, how long will it take us to erase the ignorance of the past? And how long will it take us to erase this message in our own minds? How long will it take young girls to realise that a picture on social media does not determines her worth?
When women listen to the world they forget the truth.
When the voices of social assessment scream more loudly than their inner knowledge, they can’t hear the truth of what their souls know to be true. Caged by outdated concepts that minimise our current reality, many women still gauge their worth according to these standards.
Ladies, please stop scrutinising your image in the mirror or on social media.
To live in complete freedom is to live the life you choose. Without limitation, shame or justification. The freedom of choice to be who you came here to be, pursue your dreams and love whomever you choose to love.
To know your value exists far beyond the parameters of social determinants.
