WATCH: Air through pipes cause water meters to run

RESIDENTS in Raceview and New Redruth had to endure long hours and several days without water and/or constant interruption to the water flow last week.
The RECORD received a video that was taken on May 24 in Raceview during a water outage.
Water was shut off to do repairs on a pipe and leak in Padstow Street which has caused problems for several days. The resident reported that there was pure air blowing through the pipes which is causing the water meter to turn at an accelerated rate.
“Nevertheless, this is going to add to our bills astronomically had we not noticed this phenomenon. This may explain why some of us have seen such high water bills during water outages. It also tells us to monitor our water meters more closely, especially during and after outages,” the resident said.
The RECORD forwarded the video as well as the complaint to the EMM for comment. At the time of going to print, no comment has been forthcoming.
