Man brutally killed in Petersen Street, Eden Park

A group of men attacked the man in the street and beat him to death with different objects.

APRIL 14 will remain a dark day for the Simmons family because that is the day one of their loved ones, Shane, was brutally killed by a group in Petersen Street, Eden Park.

The family stated that Shaneā€™s brother, who stays with him in Riemvasmaak, allegedly reported that a neighbourā€™s daughter told her parents that Shane had touched her inappropriately. Shaneā€™s family further alleged that the neighbours attacked Shane and that he sustained a wound on the head, which forced him to open a case with the police.

BRUTALLY KILLED: Shane Simmons, who is described as a kind-hearted man, has been brutally beaten to death.

According to Shaneā€™s cousin, when Shane was on his way back from the police station, a car stopped next to him in Petersen Street at about 6.45pm and a group of men jumped out and attacked him by hitting him with different objects.

ā€œHe had a big gash on his head and wounds on his face. These people must have followed him from the police station. He did not deserve to die this way. When the police arrived on the scene, he was already dead,ā€ said the cousin.

Shaneā€™s mother said she was told that the attackers ceased the attack when a woman in a bakkie stopped with the vehicleā€™s headlights on the group.

ā€œThe lady was driving in Petersen Street and noticed a group of men attacking and assaulting somebody in the middle of the road. She stopped near the commotion with her lights on and saw a group of men jumping into a car and speeding off, leaving my injured son on the road where he died,ā€ said the mother.

The neighbours have allegedly disappeared and havenā€™t been seen since April 15.

The police have opened a murder case and are investigating.
