Food Lover’s has a good Samaritan

Bless you, Sir, you and your company will always have my support.

On Wednesday, March 11, my wife and I visited Food Lover’s Market, to buy soup greens.

We normally buy a fair amount of packets. We make the soup and then freeze it in small containers for the cold days which are just around the corner. For old pensioners like us, it is a substantial and heartwarming meal.

On this day (Pensioner’s Day) we were standing at the fridge which houses the soup greens, annoyed at the high price at which the packs were priced. A gentleman standing at our side and whom we have taken as a fellow shopper, said to me, “Is that expensive?”. “That is very expensive”, was my answer to him, as I took my wife’s hand and walked out of the shop, not buying a thing and still being quite annoyed.

On our way to Checkers, this gentleman, who followed us, stopped us and asked if he can shake my hand. I then noticed the green outfit he was wearing and realised that he was a Food Lover’s Market employee. Being well brought up I extended my hand, and he said, “I will put something in your hand, take it and put it in your pocket.”

After we shook hands I thanked him, put whatever he placed in my hand in my pocket and carried on to Checkers.

In Checkers, I removed the item which was in my pocket, and to our disbelieve it was a R200 note.

I wish to say to this gentleman: Sir, you are a real Samaritan, you will forever be in my thoughts. I will pray to my God and ask Him to fold His hands around you, to bless and protect you for the rest of your natural life. When I depart from this life, I will ask my God, when I stand before Him, to allow you to enter His Kingdom, for you Sir, are a good Samaritan.

You, Sir, still have a place in your heart for old people. You are a man who will bend his knees to be at the same height as a child, for if a man cannot bend his knee for a child, he will never enter the Kingdom of God.

Bless you, Sir, you and your company will always have my support.
