THE well-known Boma in Alberton has been a big talking point for quite some time, and the issue keeps getting stranger.
For around five years, the Boma was left to deteriorate and fall into disrepair after a fire ravaged it.
Various court applications and counter applications by the municipality and the lessees seem to have finally resulted in an agreement.
The lessees applied for a three-month grace period in order to repair the fire damage after which the venue would be functional again.
“To my amazement and total surprise I was called out by the community to go and see a bus parked on the premises, trenches being dug and various pieces of equipment and containers parked there,” said alderman and ward councillor Bruna Haipel.
“Upon asking why trenches were being dug, I was told they were going to take water and electricity to the bus which would be used as a restaurant. Then I discovered that no plans had been presented for approval for such a development and yet the project seems to be progressing without any approval,” added Haipel.
“It is curious that this was allowed to happen as there can be no entrance to the property without permission and access being granted,” she added.
The RECORD could not gain entrance to the property to ask those occupying the bus more about their future plans.
The RECORD also contacted the Ekurhuleni metro for comment, but they have not yet responded to our requests.
