Electricity and service woes

We are highly frustrated because of this inconvenience.

I am a resident of Alberton highly disgusted by the poor service received from the Ekhuruleni Municipality. I reside in Brackendowns and it is the only house in my street without electricity. I have been logging endless calls with the municipality for assistance and all they give us is attitude!

We have spoken to team leaders and supervisors, but up until now we are still sitting in the dark. My electricity payments are made on time to the full payment and over the last two weeks we have gone through power outages every other day – my house only.

We get no assistance from the Ekhuruleni team and even get told that we will sit in the dark for another five days by a technician called ‘Mike’.

We are highly frustrated because of this inconvenience. Our lives are at risk and all we have to do is sit around and wait, no indication of turnaround time on resolving this issue.

We have never experienced such bad service and all we get is being transferred from one person to another with no resolution!

As a resident in the area, what rights do we have as citizens of this community? How do we get the service we pay for? How do we expose this inhuman treatment from service providers? I’m sure I am not the only person with this issue and do seek assistance from anyone that can help us out.

We went to the office twice in one day recently – eventually, at 2.40pm a crew was sent to us to sort the issue. One of the underground cables had to be replaced – it took them close on three days to assist us. Every time we call to follow up they tell us there was someone there but no one at home.

No feedback is provided nor an estimated day or time a team will be sent out, so how can we make arrangements; some of us work for a living.
