Hijacked due to power problems

I’m writing again to let you know that I was hijacked in my driveway recently

I saw my letter was published in the Alberton Record recently concerning the power problems in our area.

I also saw the excuses that were given for the power outages. Absolutely ridiculous.

I’m writing again to let you know that I was hijacked in my driveway recently. The end of Van Bergen Street has not had working streetlights for several weeks now.

Obviously, this darkness created the perfect opportunity for criminals. I now want to know who is going to take responsibility? Why are the streetlights not working? Why have they not been fixed after so long? Does anybody actually care? Why is no-one doing their job?

City of Ekurhuleni responds:

“The City of Ekurhuleni is in the process of replacing damaged streetlight cables in Van Bergen Street in the Alberton area.

“The conductors were installed years ago and the aluminum is starting to corrode; the new cables are expected to have a longer lifespan.

“The City of Ekurhuleni apologise for the inconvenience caused to motorists and pedestrians affected by the section of lights not functioning while repairs are underway.

“The cable replacement is expected to be completed by October 6,” said Themba Gadebe, EMM spokesperson.
