Silverman’s sentencing postponed

Boxing SA has yet to comment on the RECORD's questions pertaining to these latest developments where Silverman will fight a world title.

THE professional boxer, Jarred Silverman’s sentencing hearing has been postponed yet again, this being the third time.

On September 7, Silverman appeared in court again for sentencing and the court heard several character witnesses to plea for leniency on his behalf, including Silverman himself. There was nobody present to testify and offer aggravating circumstances.

Silverman was found guilty of attempted murder after an incident in 2014 where Silverman fired shots at the In The Woods Festival that took place on Meyer’s Farm.

IN SUPPORT: Danie Olivier, accused in the Ludi Vink murder case, with his wife, Sonja, supporting Jarred Silverman.

These postponements have allowed Silverman to continue working and take part in boxing matches, the most recent the Unleashed Tournament on September 3. This latest postponement will give him the opportunity to fight for the WBF Welterweight World Title on September 29 in Cape Town.

According to Boxing SA’s rules and regulations, no convicted criminal is allowed to fight for them. “Ultimately, the questions should maybe be posed to Jarred as to why he continued transacting with Unleashed, knowing well what he is facing, especially the possible sentencing,” commented Boxing SA.

The previous postponement was not done in court but seemingly happened in private. That postponement made it able for Silverman to take part in the mentioned tournament on September 3.

In another high profile case, the accused, Daniel Olivier and his wife, Sonja, were there in support of Silverman, hugging and chatting with one another. Olivier is facing murder charges after Ludi Vink’s death. Olivier stabbed Ludi in the eye with a pool cue. (Story on front page).

Aside from being aggressive and threatening toward the reporter covering the case, Silverman didn’t want to comment. Apparently, he is upset over a hearing with BSA he felt the RECORD was to blame for.

Silverman’s next sentencing hearing will take place on October 11 and RECORD will keep our readers updated as we get more.
