Help vulnerable children

Food, clothing, shoes, shade netting, toys and the like are very welcome – it definitely does not have to be money.

AFTER losing her only child earlier this year, a Meyersdal resident, who wants to remain anonymous, now devotes most of her time to helping other vulnerable children in honour of her child.

She has a garage filled with all sorts of clothes, toys, furniture, and much more, that she has collected to donate to two charities close to her heart – Ikhaya Youth Daycare in the Tinasonke informal settlement and Lerato Children’s Home in Meyerton.

However, these charities need ongoing donations to keep going, and she is asking the community for help. “Ikhaya is in desperate need of shade,” she says. “There are no trees nearby. The centre is basically just a big, metal shipping container that has been divided into a few ‘classrooms’. The sun beats down on there and the children have no shade to retreat to, and with the hot season approaching, shade is the number one priority for them right now. Then, of course, both charities always need food. Any donation will be helpful to them and very much appreciated,” she said.

She visits these charities once a week and, if people are willing to make donations, she will be more than happy to collect them and drop them off. Food, clothing, shoes, shade netting, toys and the like are very welcome – it definitely does not have to be money. She can be contacted on 083 307 8361.
