UPDATE: South Crest robbery victim recovering well

He is very happy to be out of the hospital and able to get better with his family surrounding him.

IAN Nieuwoudt, the man who got shot during a robbery at a convenience store in South Crest is recovering from his injury.

After being shot through his jaw, Ian had to go through serious reconstruction of his jawbone. However, he has been making amazing progress in recovering and is now continuing his recovery at home.

His wife, Karin, says he finds it very difficult and painful to talk, as his teeth had been secured together with elastic to ensure minimum movement of his jaw. That said, he can only consume liquidised food for the time being, but she is more than happy to prepare it and take care of him. She also says he is very happy to be out of the hospital and able to get better with his family surrounding him.

A correction to the previous article:

It turns out that Ian was actually not followed into the store by the robbers. Ian entered the store, unaware that the robbery was in the process. As he entered the store, the robbers were in a room at the back, loading cash, and one of them was operating behind a tall product shelf. Ian could not see them as he made his way to get milk. The robbers must have felt threatened because once they saw him, they hit and shot him and made a hasty exit.
