The Bag Lady

Feeling the cold? I've been shopping for all things nice to help you get through the next few winter months.

We’ve had a taste of winter this past week with a few frosty, cold mornings and I’ve been checking out the shops for goodies which will either give you that feel-good feeling or keep you snuggly over the next few months.

Ten winter warmers to help beat the chill

1. Delicious teas from Woolworths come in boxes of twenty tagged teabags, and are perfect for winter. Try Forty Winks Dreamy, a calming blend of chamomile and lavender with vanilla notes. Or, curl up with A Winter’s Tale Fireside, a gently warming blend of chamomile, echinacea, rosemary and pink peppercorns.

2. Nescafe’s Cappuccino sachets are always a winner and the hazelnut-flavoured blend of sugar, frothy milk and coffee is comforting and delicious, perfect for that afternoon treat at the office.

3. Just Darling’s (Mall of the South) ground coffee or beans, at R79 for 250gr, will be sure to stir your soul and perk you up to face the day.

4. Fresh Green Pea and Smoked Ham Soup from Woolies is great savoury winter warmer.

5. Delicious home-made biscuits and rusks from The Cake Away (The Broads, Mulbarton) help you forget the chill. Choose from butter or mixed fruit rusks, chocolate cookies, shortbread, crunchies and lots more, all lovingly made with the finest ingredients. The prices are great, too!

6. Fingerless gloves are just the best. I don’t know about you, but when I’m working on my computer, my hands are freezing. You’ll find these gloves at Woolworths, Truworths, Foschini and Edgars.

7. Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser really helps dry skin and sinks in beautifully.

8. Yankee Candles, the world’s best loved candles, are available at J J Cale, Mall of the South. Try the simply aromatic Cinnamon Stick, Winter Treats or Spiced Orange.

9. Good old Milo is an old stand-by. Nothing quite beats a mug of hot milk with spoons of Milo, and to make it extra delish, grate dark chocolate on the top or a swirl of thick fresh cream before serving.

10. Toast and tea always help. If I’m feeling a little under the weather, slices of thick toast buttered with real butter, and a cup of tea usually see me right. Now, if none of those ideas help you through the cold, well, you’re on your own!

Bouquet of the Week

Isabel gives a bouquet to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) in Regents Park. “I adopted an animal from them a while ago and I don’t have enough words to express how wonderful and clean these premises are. I could see the animals are loved and cared for by the staff who look after them, even calling the animals by their names. This shows me the love they have for the animals on their premises. The staff are friendly and helpful and I encourage people who are interested in adopting a pet to visit them. To Cindy and all the staff, from the vets, to the receptionist, to the cleaner, you are all much appreciated as a team.”

Have a great week, keep warm and shop till you drop.
