Catholics re-enact Good Friday

The re-enactment by the youth of the church was spectacular and highly professional and reinforced by the wonderful singing of the congregation which followed the procession.

MILLIONS of Christians around the world commemorated Good Friday on April 14 – as has been done for the past 2 000 years. Eden Park was no exception, as Christians there took part in a Good Friday procession to commemorate the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

St Paul’s Catholic Church in Eden Park had a commemorative procession starting at Eden Park SAPS and going all the way to the church building in Alfa Street, enacting how Jesus suffered to the end.

The re-enactment by the youth of the church was spectacular and highly professional and reinforced by the wonderful singing of the congregation which followed the procession.

The procession was similar to the one that is followed in Jerusalem every Good Friday as Christians from around the world walk along Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrows) to the place where Jesus died on the cross.

The Eden Park re-enactment started where Jesus appeared before Pontius Pilate, who handed Jesus over to the people and then followed the stations of the cross, showing how Jesus carried the wooden cross while being whipped and falling along the way to His crucifixion. The procession ended in the church in Alfa Street.
