ACCORDING to the SAPS, house break-ins in Eden Park are increasing at an alarming rate with at least two to three being reported daily.
On Friday, March 31, thieves targeted a house in Ford Street. A 23-year-old tenant, living in a back room, went to a party and when she returned after midnight, a hole had been cut through the roof and goods stolen.
According to the tenant, the thieves stole two cellphones, sneakers and cash.
On Sunday, April 2, thieves targeted a house in Hudson Street, which is close to Ford Street, while the family was sleeping. A plasma television and a computer were stolen. The thieves gained access to the premises by breaking the sliding door which, according the police, is a common method of gaining entry.
Police found a pair of tekkies on the property, which they believe belong to a perpetrator, as well as the tool used to force the sliding door open.
On Tuesday, April 4, thieves broke into a house in Abraham Street while the owner was at work and stole a plasma TV.
The homeowners have opened cases at the Eden Park SAPS and these are under investigation. The police are working towards curbing the burglary trend and urge residents to be vigilant about their home and personal security.
