Peanut is one happy dog

The love between Peanut and Adri is unbreakable.

PEANUT is a dog who has had a birthday party every year with a different theme, party packs, a cake, a costume, decorations and other doggy friends.

The little animal was only two months old when he was adopted by Adri Nel on May 10 in 2012.

THE LIFE: Peanut in his shell filled with water.

According to Adri, she was looking for a small dog after their two other dogs passed away.

“I was 23 and my main thing was that my new dog had to be adopted. I visited the Alberton SPCA regularly to drop off newspapers for their recycling project and I always looked through the kennels to see if there was a dog that I would like. So one day I went there and then I saw this puppy – but all that you could see was his little face with these big long ears. He reminded me of a bat with those ears. It was love at first sight and I got him that same day,” said Adri.

Adri is also the chairperson of Alberton SPCA, and her passion is to help animals and to prevent abuse by focusing on sterilisation.

TWO: Just look at that outfit.

She told the RECORD she organises birthday parties for her dog in order to create awareness of animal abuse. “I want people to know that there are a lot of pets at the local SPCAs seeking attention and a new home. It is better to adopt and I regret nothing. Love is not always where you think it is – and that is the truth,” she said.

RESCUED: Adri with Peanut on her wedding day.

Peanut’s first birthday party was an ordinary braai, but his second one was at Rietvlei Zoo and the theme was superheroes. “He had the cutest Superman costume on and, let me tell you, it rained before his birthday so everything was muddy that day – but my little boy enjoyed playing in the mud,” a smiling Adri added.

FRIENDSHIP: Peanut and Adri adore each other.

This year’s theme is 005 Agent Peanut, which is from an action movie. “I am so excited about his costume as it will be even better than last year’s,” said Adri.

Peanut is a very playful dog, he loves kisses and attention and has a tender heart. Adri also said that he is very spoilt and has moods sometimes, but he loves wagging his tail.

BIRTHDAY: This year Peanut is turning 5 and his birthday will be celebrated on March 4.

“I suffer from depression and this beautiful dog has changed my life – he cheered me up and we did everything together, like going to cricket matches.

Peanut is currently living with five other animal family members – three dogs and two cats that include his girlfriend, Mia, who was adopted from Germiston SPCA. Mia and Peanut are very close and they have weekly sleepovers at their grandparents’ house in Raceview.

HANDSOME ONE: Adri and Peanut during Adri’s wedding photo shoot.

Peanut also loves soft toys and Marltons dog treats.

On March 12 in 2015, when Adri and Nicholis got married, the ring bearer was none other than Peanut.

Mr. Peanut was wearing a black suit and was also a part of the wedding photo shoot. He ate and danced with the newly married couple and had a fun time.

GIRLFRIEND: Mia is also a rescued dog and she is the love of Peanut’s life.

Peanut’s fifth birthday party will be held on March 4 at 09:00 at the Goldfields training ground in Germiston. Costs will be R30 per adult and R15 per child (those aged one to five go in for free). Micro chipping and dip baths will be available at a reduced rate and there will be something to do for both young and old.

Please note that no puppies under six months of age are allowed and all dogs must remain on a leash. For more information, contact Alberton SPCA on 011 907 1568.

HAPPY: Peanut is one friendly dog.
