Broken Wings needs your help

Broken Wings, a non-profit charity organisation in Alberton, has run into serious financial difficulties and needs help to keep going.

BROKEN Wings, a non-profit charity organisation in Alberton, has run into serious financial difficulties and needs help to keep going.

The charity takes care of people with an assortment of challenges and disabilities, mental or physical, or a combination of both.

Broken Wings is currently looking after around 30 of these special needs individuals who would otherwise have nowhere to go. The organisation picks them all up from their homes (some outside Alberton) and takes them to their facility, where they are fed and kept busy with arts and crafts and other stimulating activities.

“The government does not give us any assistance whatsoever and our running costs every month are around R40 000, so we are dependent on the help of the public and businesses to assist us,” says the organisation’s Sheryl Swanepoel.

“The tyres on our van need to be replaced as the thread is nearly completely gone, our fuel costs are astronomical, we have to pay the water and lights, all the food we need to buy and make, etc, etc. “There are so many things that we need to do and costs we need to cover, often things people would never even consider,” adds Sheryl.

Sheryl says she is very grateful to all the people and businesses who have helped them in the past and she is aware that people are finding it hard to give in the current economic climate, but that she hopes people are able to contribute what they can to help them to continue helping those who cannot help themselves.

“I understand people are sometimes a bit dubious about charities and what they do with donations, but our doors are always open for anyone who would like to come have a look at what we do,” concludes Sheryl.
