Resident struggles with EMM

I would like to bring attention to a problem I have had with regards to rubbish collection.

I would like to bring attention to a problem I have had with regards to rubbish collection.

I have religiously put my bin out every Friday (the scheduled day) and for several weeks now, they collect on a Sunday, but drive right past mine, at a heck of a speed. Even my next door neighbour with his massive outstanding accounts gets collected.

After I called a number the RECORD gave me, Ekurhuleni eventually sent somebody to collect.

I queried with the man as to why they had not been collecting my trash and they explained to me that they have a new manager from Benoni and that he has issued instructions that bins not displaying the Ekurhuleni logo (like mine) not be collected.

The reason seems quite silly, but there it is.

“The City of Ekurhuleni has discovered that some residents in the Alberton area have 240l bins that were not issued by the City of Ekurhuleni. Some residents have purchased their own wheelie bins of different colours (e.g. red, yellow and orange) and Pikitup bins from the Johannesburg Metro have also been identified in the area.

“For accurate billing and accountability reasons the city’s waste management services department suggested that households with 240l bins not distributed by the municipality should be identified. Residents are encouraged to visit the Alberton waste depot and to collect 240l bins issued by the council,”said EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
