Atrocious accident kills five

Five people died in an accident on the N3 north near Alberton.

FIVE people were killed and several injured when two suspected robbers crashed into a minibus taxi on the N3 north near Alberton on Monday, June 27. According to William Ntladi, spokesman for Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, it is believed there was a high speed chase between a white Mercedes Benz and the police, whereby the sedan crashed into the back of the taxi, forcing the taxi to roll over several times before landing on its roof.

Somehow the suspects managed to flee the scene and are still at large. “They literally ran away,” said Ntladi. Police also found two guns in the suspects’ abandoned car.

Motorists were stuck in traffic for several hours as the whole highway entering Johannesburg North before the Geldenhuys interchange was closed. According to Ntladi, the police chased the suspects who were allegedly linked to violent crimes and a shoot-out.

It is still not clear where the criminals came from. The RECORD has contacted Alberton SAPS and the Brackendowns SAPS, to determine where the suspects came from, but there were no matching reports for that day.

More information will follow.
