Parents have nothing to fear while Gibson Nyagumbo is around.

Residents walk past at least three security guards a day, but few are as memorable as the man tasked with keeping pupils of Laerskool Orion safe before and after school.

He can be seen ushering the younger ones between parents’ cars and school gates, while he keeps a constant eye out for danger and crime.

His efforts and enthusiasm have not gone unnoticed.

“It is amazing to see him at work,” parent Pierre de Lange told RECORD.

“He calls every child by name as he sees us parents arrive and ushers them to the car safely.”

A teacher at the school, Ronel le Roux, said Gibson is respected by pupils, teachers and parents alike.

“We value what Gibson does and his passion for children’s safety is noticeable when seeing him in action.

“He is an important part of the Orion family.”

Gibson lives in nearby Albertsdal and said he finds his job fulfilling.

“I started here in February 2010 and I think it is important that pupils feels safe at school,” he said.

“I enjoy working with children and I know all of them,” he said enthusiatically.
