South presents Mrs SA finalist

The forty-four year old is the eldest woman in the in the top 25 and she sees that as one of the most supporting factors in the competition for her.

THE South presents its very own top 25 Mrs South Africa 2017 finalist, Tamzin Vassanjee, the attorney and project manager and proud mother of two beautiful daughters Mishka (17) and Sian (13).

The 44-year-old, living in Eye of Africa is the eldest woman in the top 25 and she sees that as one of the most supporting factors in the competition for her.

ā€œWalking into the pageant I was nervous and conflicted, after making it into the top 25 I now realise the true power of the sash and I know that I can do so much with it. I have a different kind of confidence (not arrogance) and I am proud to be associated with this pageant,ā€ said Vassanjee.

After being announced as a finalist in the CANSA gala dinner held on April 29 at Emperors Palace, Vassanjee was left overwhelmed and walked away with a great amount of respect for the company and how everything is run in such an ethical manner.

With hair, make-up, dresses, tables and decor all set, the atmosphere was electric, and all that was left was for the ladies to walk the walk and talk the talk. With so many accomplished people present, Vassanjee stands by her word saying that this is truly an empowerment programme and not just a pageant.

With doubts filling her head as the time drew near for the announcement of the finalists, Vassanjee found herself making all kinds of deals with God explaining the things she can do for the community if she was chosen as a finalist.

ā€œFor me it was a psychological preparation: there were moments when I asked myself if I can do and if I should be here. I was so encouraged by other women in the pageant who stood strong and confident and determined,ā€ she said.

With hours of getting in shape and practising how to apply make-up, it all paid off for Vassanjee as she now prepares to host her Cuppa for CANSA which will be held later this month and then the finals to be held on October 21.

ā€œThis pageant is a platform to inspire young women, married women, businesswomen, mothers, sisters, friends and even the ā€˜Missā€™ representatives of the world. I am thankful to my daughters who keep me so grounded and offer advice like no other 17- and 13-year-old. They remind me to stay true to myself and to be comfortable with what I wear and do. I find myself now telling make-up artists how Iā€™d like my make-up,ā€ laughed Vassanjee.

Vassanjee expresses gratitude to her aunt Liz for assisting her with the decorating of her table, sponsored by Foursum Finance, at the CANSA gala.

Preparing for her Cuppa for CANSA, Vassanjee says she now enjoys the fundraising aspect of the competition and loves it when everything comes together for a good cause.

She has also recently held a motivational talk at Mondeor High for grade 10, 11 and 12 learners and was also invited by Waterstone College and Henley High to give motivational talks.

ā€œI love to be able to address and reach young minds and help them realise their potential and capabilities if they put their minds to it. I will soon be delivering 900 copies of Dr Seussā€™s ‘Oh the places youā€™ll go’ to the learners of Mondeor High in hopes that they will be inspired to be more than their situations,ā€ she said.

Tamzin will be hosting her Cuppa for CANSA as a top 25 Mrs SA finalist on May 28 at Thaba from 09:00 to 12:00. Tickets are R300 per person and include breakfast, entertainment, a motivational talk, many prizes to be won and auctions to be held, all for CANSA. ‘Top Billing’ presenter, Chris Jafta will be the master of ceremonies for the day and there will also be a supervised childrenā€™s room.
