Duduza poetry club wants to uplift the youth

They host poetry sessions at Netso Lifestyle Gallery in Duduza and are inviting the youth to join them.

Duduza – A talented group have turned to poetry to fight the plight of drug abuse, GBV and other social ills.

The Duduza Poetry Club was founded by poets Thabiso Ntanda, Thapelo Dimingo, Jabulani Hlongwane and Phephile Hlatshwayo in 2018.
Ntanda said they want to use art as a tool to take the youth off the streets.
“The focus is not only on poetry but we want to provide a platform for artists to showcase their talents as well. Our mission is to create a safe space of expression, touching on current social issues that are affecting our societies.
“We want to use poetry as a tool for literacy empowerment, engagement and education,” he said.

They host Kasi Poetry Slam Jam sessions at The Netso Lifestyle Gallery in Duduza every first Saturday of the month.

Young people are urged to attend the sessions.

On the last Sunday of the month, they facilitate writing workshops. Their sessions are free of charge and are set to host an open mic on September 10.
The club is also working on releasing a poetry compilation PDF book.
